Ayurveda is an ancient, sacred system of health care. Originating in India over 5000 years ago, Ayurveda is a comprehensive, personalized, wellness focused system.
Ayurveda offers guidance on diet, lifestyle, seasonal and daily routines, herbal supplements, and body treatments such as massage, for detoxification and stress reduction. The literal translation of the word Ayurveda is a composite of two Sanskrit words Ayus, meaning ‘longevity’ and Veda, referring to ‘wisdom’. Ayurveda views health as the equilibrium of the three biological energies, termed doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), the seven tissues (Dhatus), a strong, balanced digestive fire (agni ), a pleasant soul, and peaceful balanced senses and mind. Ayurveda addresses all aspects of life, such as consciousness, physiology, behavior, and how to appropriately engage with our environment.
A foundational concept in Ayurveda is Prakruti, each individual’s unique constitution, which is established at birth. An individual’s Prakruti determines the ease or difficulty one experiences in their interface with conditions such as climate, seasons, diet, stress, etc… While Ayurveda honors dietary variations, or food choices based on availability, acceptability, customs, and traditions, it has guidelines that are individualized in respect to one’s Prakruti. In the course of our life we experience obstacles such as mental-emotional stress, and bodily challenges in the form of sickness, injury and aging. Ayurveda offers guidance and natural solutions in response to these health challenges, as well as recommendations and routines for a long, healthy, happy life.

BIO: Pearl Bindu Chaozon Bauer
My name is Pearl Bindu Bauer and I’ve been practicing yoga for over 15 years, teaching for 7. The literal meaning of yoga is “union” and what I love about yoga is how it helps me find alignment in my body/mind/spirit and physical/emotional connections. While meditating helps me stay calm, the asana practice on the mat helps me come into my body – so the balance between the two is key for my daily practice. In my Hatha 2 classes, I often incorporate an intentional practice – for example, I do a series on the Yamas and a series on the Niyamas so we meditate on principles of yoga while practicing mantras and asanas on the mat. I am also trained in yoga therapy which finds ways of how the practice of yoga can help with the understanding of common illnesses and conditions so people who are undergoing physical and emotional trauma can live a more easeful existence. While stretching and strengthening the physical body are a big part of the yoga practice, we also focus on deep relaxation, breath work and meditation as practices that are equally important to our well being.
