Sukhawat Ali Khan leads Cali Qawwali, a soulful qawwali ensemble. Performances by Cali Qawwali bring you group singing and an instrumental sound, combining introspective prayer and joyful celebration. This music is performed both in unplugged and in electric abandon. Cali Qawwali’s unique spiritual music calls upon traditional Sufi and classical raag-based songs from Pakistan and India, new compositions, Bollywood, kirtan, ghazal and folk. The music is nourished by Sukhawat Ali’s immersion in the Shaam Chaurasi gharana, his musical family dating from the sixteenth century. Lyrics are in Urdu/Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic and Persian, sometimes combined effortlessly in one song. The audience is often invited to clap, sing and move with the band, creating a Cali Qawwali form of dhamaal, which is a song and dance seen at Sufi shrines. Sukhawat Ali Khan, vocals and harmonium – Sukhawat Ali is a classical vocalist from the Sham Chaurasi Gharana, a tradition founded in the 16th century. He is the son of legendary Indian-Pakistani vocalist Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and nephew of Nazakat Ali Khan. In addition to being a master of Hindustani classical music, he is an accomplished performer of North Indian and Pakistani devotional and folk music and ghazals. He began singing and playing music at the age of seven with his father Salamat Ali Khan, and has performed extensively around the world. Based in Sacramento he teaches individual students in the San Francisco Bay Area and leads Cali Qawwali. Instagram: @alisukhawat

Chanting calms the nerves, purifies the emotions, heals the body, and opens the heart. It elevates and concentrates the mind, preparing one for silent mantra repetition, meditation, and communion with the Divine. Anhad Naad Collective presents:
Music and Poetry of South Asian Mystics: an exploration of Sufi and Qawwali songs.

We are sharing our own experience with Sufism through singing, music and poetry. Audience is encouraged to sing along with us, we will provide lyrics with English translations.
Historically, in South Asia, Sufism played a huge role in inter-faith syncretism and Sufi shrines (dargahs) have been pivotal to communal harmony.

BIO Anhad Naad Collective:
Formed in 2019, Anhad Naad Collective is a genre-defying ensemble rooted in the exploration of South Asian musical traditions and their intersections with global genres. The collective had its debut concert in 2020 in San Francisco, led by core members Divya Purohit Vyas and Jun Ishimuro (of Qb Moda Jazz). Initially, their work centered around blending South Asian raga-based music with the soulful textures of jazz, R&B, and Black musical traditions.
With a flexible and evolving lineup of collaborating artists, Anhad Naad Collective has performed at notable Bay Area venues including Bird & Beckett, Integral Yoga Institute, the Golden Gate Park Bandstand, and events such as San Francisco’s Summer of Music hosted by Noise Pop and the Civic Joy Fund.
In 2023, the group expanded its focus to delve deeper into South Asian spiritual music, with a special emphasis on Sufi Qawwali traditions. Anhad Naad treats the spiritual dimension of Sufi poetry and music with deep reverence, often seeking guidance from poets and experts from Pakistan and India. Lead vocalist Divya Purohit Vyas has previously been a part of Bay Dervish in Alameda, a spiritual music collective associated with Sufi Way, led by the late Kiran Rana and Jeanne Rana.

Raas Leela Kirtana is a Los Angeles-based devotional ensemble dedicated to sharing the transformative experience of Kirtan and Sankirtan—the collective singing of sacred names and mantras. Rooted in the Bhakti Yoga tradition, the group brings together traditional bhajans, mantras, and sacred chants with contemporary musical arrangements and an accessible, heart-centered approach.
Their performances are immersive and participatory, inviting audiences to move beyond simply listening and become part of the experience through call-and-response chanting, meditation, devotion, and collective musical expression. Whether someone is deeply familiar with Kirtan or experiencing it for the first time, Raas Leela Kirtana creates a welcoming space for connection, joy, inner stillness, and the transformative power of sacred sound.
The ensemble is led by founder Gopala Bhakta and is based in Los Angeles.
