Part 3 – Practicing Yoga for the Internal and Universal Body

This 3 part series meets on the first Wednesday of the month.

Our egos can get a kick out of our asana practice, especially when focused on physical accomplishments. If consumed by external motivation, we may miss some of the more profound effects and nuanced gifts of this moving meditation. This last part of the 3-part series will round out the conversation of “Moving Inside, Outside and Beyond Our Hatha Practice” by shifting emphasis to the benefits from the seen to the unseen. We’ll look deep within at basic anatomy and how the postures impact our organs and internal body, and even deeper within at the spiritual side that moves toward self-realization offered by a steady, committed, and unbroken hatha practice. When our reason to get on our mats goes beyond even our own benefits, a lasting and sustainable motivation may help us onward and inspire us to be of service to others. Can the universe hear one body practicing?! Set up at home and be prepared for a mixture of lecture, workshop and asana practice.

 

Marc Mukunda Morozumi, ERYT 200, CMT began practicing Ashtanga yoga in 2001 while a full-time modern dancer with Joe Goode Performance Group in SF, CA. Due to injury, Mukunda retired from his 12 year dance career in 2004 and entered the events industry from 2004-2016. A 2-month personal trip to India in 2007 paved the way for landing in Yogaville in 2009 for his first teacher training with Swami Divyananda and staff. One month after returning from graduation, Mukunda began teaching a Saturday morning class at the SF IYI which he maintained for over 10 years. Mukunda has co-led Integral Yoga retreats since 2011 and has staffed or co-led Basic Teacher Trainings since 2013. He has opened and managed small group yoga studios in SF since 2017 and in early 2020, he opened and then reformed a yoga center post COVID-19: Mukunda Yoga – Activation and Well-being Center in SOMA, SF, CA.
