Please review our In-person Safety Guidelines.

ONLINE & IN-PERSON | $35 for both Thursdays –  May 5 & 12

We all encounter challenging situations that trigger strong emotions like fear or anger, which undermine our ability to act with clarity and care. In this 2-part workshop, we’ll explore how to recognize and relate to these powerful emotions, how to look deeply and understand their root causes, and how to receive the messages these emotions bring. We’ll discuss the steps needed to support our efforts to be present and compassionate with these deep-seated feelings, so that we can respond to them skillfully and use them as opportunities to guide our personal and spiritual growth.

The first session will focus on how anger originates, how it affects us, and how its energy can be released and expressed in appropriate ways.

The second session will explore the roots of fear, and how to bring awareness, healing and transformation to the psychic knots that bind our energy and weaken our ability to experience compassion and joy.

Spring Equinox – Sun Salutations Workshop

$15, $20 | ONLINE & IN-PERSON | Please register in advance, a Zoom link and passcode will be provided via confirmation email.

Join Mia Velez in celebration of the sunlight at this spring equinox. For centuries, yogis have welcomed the sun with the sun salutation series. It is a well-known tonic for the body that many people practice on a daily basis. This standing sequence maintains strength and flexibility in the body and helps to awaken the energy for the day.

In this interactive workshop, we will dissect/inquire within each posture as it suits different body types and abilities. The aim is to have a deeper connection to the body and to help prepare one for the more subtle practices.

Mia Velez entered the Integral Yoga Sangha in 2016 through the kitchen by helping to cook Thursday community lunches and silent retreat meals. In 2018 she certified as an Integral Yoga teacher to learn more of the IYI approach and be part of the lineage. Mia is a disciple of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu lineage and is highly influenced by her martial arts training. After completing her first 200 hour teacher training in 2008, she began to see undeniable parallel in Yoga and Kung Fu. When she began teaching Kung Fu in 2014, she incorporated Yoga insight and principles in her classes. Her goal in teaching is to connect with the students and to facilitate a safe space for exploration and self inquiry. Yoga and Kung Fu is integrated into her daily life as a mother, a preschool teacher, and an advocate for gender, race and class equality through multiple non-profits groups.

The ancient texts of Yoga help us understand that the root cause of much of our suffering originates in the higher mind or intellectual level, including the subconscious beliefs formed during our childhood and present influence by our culture and environment. These unseen impressions from the past and present form our identity and influence the way we experience the world. In this 3-week course, we will look deeply into the subconscious beliefs that give rise to our fears and frustrations, and limit our ability to respond skillfully to life‘s challenges. We will use the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, guided reflection, and group discussion to see how this conditioning influences our physical, energetic, mental and social well-being. We will explore how we can each customize our personal practice to enhance our ability to respond skillfully to life‘s challenges and bring awareness and healing to all of the 5 levels of being.
