Meets monthly on the second Friday.
A free follow up session is included two weeks later at the same time on the 4th Friday, to share and explore together the assigned and/or other writing work.

In these times of great change we will explore a path toward meeting ourselves where we are to give voice to all that matters!

As we live with interruptions and chaos, we can deepen the roots of our creativity, encouraging the river of expression to flow.

Beginners and seasoned writers are welcome, as we explore various forms of writing: poetry, prose, short stories, memoir, among others. Through writing exercises using everyday life, place, family, images, poetry of others, while using pranayama, meditation and the guidance of the Sutras we will build a body of work. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace.
Tools we will Practice:

  • The Art of Paying Attention
  • Acceptance
  •  Play
  • Writing from the Heart

Together we will combine self-care with our writing and discover what a writing practice means to us and how it may take shape.

Pranayama, Mudras and Bandhas for the Immune System

We are sorry, this event has been CANCELLED.

$20 Early bird, expires 9/18

$25

As the fall is starting, we invite you to join well-known yogi and holistic health practitioner Margabandhu of New Jersey in exploring the importance of the immune system and practices that improve and strengthen our immunity to viruses.

We have had many concerns over our health this past year and a half, as we should! Whether you contracted COVID or not, did or did not take the vaccine, Pranayama/Special Breathing Practice can make a huge difference to your health. Building prana, directing prana, clearing energy blockages are a few of the “behind-the-scenes” work of a full Pranayama practice. Margabandhu will explain the benefits of these practices, some of which may be new to you, as well as lead us in a complete Pranayama Practice.

Good health is our birthright. We have to be actively involved in returning our health to its optimal vital possibility. Your decisions about vaccination and treatment choices are personal, valid, and to be respected. There will be time for questions. All are welcome.

Margabandhu Martarano, E-RYT 500, has served as director of the New Jersey Integral Yoga® Institute for 50 years. Margabandhu is a senior certified Integral Yoga instructor, proficient in all aspects of Yoga. He has a B.A. in education, is a master herbalist, and is certified in therapeutic acupressure massage and reflexology. Margabandhu is also the director of the Well Being Center in Verona, NJ, a holistic center specializing in all aspects of health and healing. He is the co-creator of the Yoga for Autism teacher training.

Yoga and The Pelvic Floor: A workshop for women

$75 (early bird, exp. 8/23)
$85

Please register in advance, a Zoom link and passcode will be provided via confirmation email.

All female identified or female assigned at birth people welcome.

Yoga Therapy Clinic presents: Yoga and The Pelvic Floor

Proper strengthening and stabilizing of the pelvic floor helps to create the correct foundation of each movement in the body. This is the true meaning of “core work.” Whether you experience any of these conditions, or are just plain curious about this region of the body, this workshop is for you:

  • pelvic pain
  • lower back, hip or groin problems
  • discomfort during sex or while using tampons
  • skin irritation *leak when laughing or sneezing
  • have to go the bathroom too often
  • prolapsed organs
  • pre and post pregnancy

In this workshop we will locate, assess, soften, stretch, strengthen and exercise the muscle groups of the pelvic floor, discuss mula bandha, abdominal health and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana. Part one of the workshop will begin with anatomy, lecture and discussion, followed by subtle experiential movements to awaken your understanding of this often ignored area. There will be a short break and then we will move to a series of specific exercises and asanas for the pelvic floor. Handouts will be provided. Bring your friends, sisters, mothers and daughters. Although helpful, no yoga experience is required.

This workshop qualifies for continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance and IAYT. Certificate given upon request by the instructor.

Leslie Howard is an Oakland-based yoga teacher, specializing in all things pelvic. She leads workshops and trainings nationally and has written a book about caring for the female pelvis, Pelvic Liberation. She is a regular presenter for the Yoga Journal conferences and a regular contributor to Yoga Journal magazine. Her own struggles with healing her hips and pelvis led her to intense study of the anatomy, physiology, cultural messaging, history and energetics of this rich place. Her teaching is informed by over 3500 hours of yoga study with senior Iyengar yoga teachers. She considers Ramanand Patel her most important influence and mentor. She has designed two very successful studies for UCSF on how to use yoga to alleviate incontinence and pelvic pain.
