Exploration of Universal Love:
Evening of Sufi poetry, music and Hindu devotional songs with audience participation.
The two movements brought a new form of religious expression amongst Muslims and Hindus. The Sufis were mystics who called for liberalism in Islam. They emphasized on an egalitarian society based on universal love. The Bhakti saints transformed Hinduism by introducing devotion or bhakti as the means to develop one’s spirituality.
It is noteworthy that very important figures who shaped early modern Bhakti and Sufism lived during 15th and 16th centuries. Lord Chaitanya, Kabir, Guru Nanak ( founder of Shikhism), Shah Hussain and Bulleh Shah both Sufi poets. Our selection include some songs from the same period.
