Community Outreach Programs
Our Community Outreach Program is a grant-funded initiative designed to expand access to Yoga and meditation classes to underserved communities
Through our Access program, we partner with
the San Francisco and Albany school districts to offer specialized Yoga classes for young adults with developmental disabilities. Together, we serve 325 students in San Francisco and 345 students in Albany, providing adapted movement, breath work, and mindfulness practices that support physical, emotional, and social well-being.
These classes are designed using principles of Accessible Yoga, ensuring that every student—regardless of ability—can participate safely and with dignity. For many of these young adults, this program is part of a critical transition into adulthood, helping them build self-confidence, reduce stress, and learn tools for lifelong self-care.
When you give, you help make Yoga truly accessible for students who deserve support, inclusion, and the healing power of community wellness.

In 2020, rooted in the belief that personal transformation can inspire positive social change Integral Yoga Institute San Francisco launched a scholarship-based teacher training for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students to address systemic barriers to Yoga, including racism, cost, and accessibility.
Spanish-speaking graduates soon partnered with local nonprofits to bring Yoga to working-class communities in San Francisco’s Mission District. In 2022, BIPOC Yoga instructor and language justice advocate Andreina Maldonado led a free, six-week Yoga series in Spanish for domestic workers. Supported by IYISF, the San Francisco Day Labor Program, Women’s Collective, and Dance Mission Theater, the series empowered participants to embrace wellness practices. This initiative grew into the IYISF Community
Outreach Program, a grant-funded effort that brings accessible Yoga and meditation classes to underserved neighborhoods in San Francisco, with a focus on the Mission District—a vibrant community shaped by generations of Latinx heritage yet disproportionately impacted by racial, cultural, and economic inequities.
Through free and low-cost classes offered in Spanish, the program provides movement and mindfulness practices for domestic workers, day laborers, mothers-to-be, young adults with disabilities, and seniors. Classes are held in culturally accessible, community-based spaces,
ensuring participants feel welcomed, respected, and supported in their wellness journey. With support from Livongo Health, Working Theory Foundation, Give Back Yoga Foundation, Lululemon’s Here to Be Foundation, and local partners including the Alliance for Social and Economic Justice Center, Community Well, Casa Doula Center, San Francisco Women’s Building, and Access SFUSD, the program continues to expand.
By removing barriers of language, culture, cost, and transportation, the IYISF Community Outreach Program fosters inclusive, healing-centered spaces where underserved communities can experience the transformative benefits of Yoga.
