Our Yoga Teacher Training program has been training teachers and changing lives since 1981. The training provides a strong foundation for personal and spiritual development, as well as the skills necessary to become a confident, knowledgeable Yoga instructor. Whether you want to teach others or take your own practice to a deeper level, this training will provide you with an authentic experience of living Yoga.

Program Details
Integral Yoga uses an inward, spiritually-focused form of Hatha Yoga to lead students to an experience of inner peace and greater awareness. To prepare teachers to lead students inward, our Yoga Teacher Training program offers a balance of theory and practice on a broad range of topics. Graduates are certified to teach Beginner Level Hatha Yoga and are qualified to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200.

Support and Community
The trainees are supported as they develop skills to teach a full class. They receive weekly guidance during practice sessions from our mentoring staff. Graduates of our program may apply to teach at the Integral Yoga Institute. If accepted, they receive additional free training with a mentor and ongoing continuing education.

This training program included free access to all Yoga classes offered at Integral Yoga San Francisco and you will receive free access to IYTV, a large and ever-expanding library of recorded Integral Yoga Teachings, throughout the duration of this training!

The Curriculum
The Teacher Training program offers thorough training in asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy and physiology. It also includes many hours of training in yoga teaching methodology, including how to make adjustments, teach yoga workshops, and more. Graduates receive a certificate to teach Beginner Level Hatha Yoga.

Online
We are committed to providing a safe and high quality program for all participants. Our graduates will develop skills to teach in person or online. The Yoga Alliance criteria about teaching trainings online is adapting as we move forward. We have dedicated staff to oversee the online coaching to have personal connections throughout the training.

About the trainers:

Snehan Born has four decades of experience with yoga and has been teaching Integral Yoga since 2000. Snehan resides at the Integral Yoga Institute of San Francisco, where he serves as assistant to Swami Ramananda, teaches yoga classes and is a lead teacher trainer. He has also led trainings at Satchidananda Ashram, Yogaville, Virginia, The Integral Yoga Institute in New York City and privately in Hawaii where Snehan co-created the Metamorphous Yoga Studio. Snehan is certified in all levels of Integral Yoga Hatha and has received additional certifications in Pranayama, Meditation, Raja Yoga and Stress Management from Integral Yoga and “Life of a Yogi” certification from Sri Dharma Mittra. In 1997 Snehan studied with Deepak Chopra in Goa, India and again in 2001 in Agra, India where he was asked to teach an Integral Yoga class to about 250 participants. Also, in 2001 he received “Conscious Eating”, a live foods certification from Dr. Gabriel Cousens at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Arizona.

Snehan has lived and traveled extensively within India (over 9 trips) and practiced with many teachers there. He has taught yoga all over the US as well as in India, Nepal, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan and Europe.

Mia Velez entered the Integral Yoga Sangha in 2016 through the kitchen by helping to cook Thursday community lunches and silent retreat meals. In 2018 she certified as an Integral Yoga teacher to learn more of the IYI approach and be part of the lineage. Mia is a disciple of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu lineage and is highly influenced by her martial arts training. After completing her first 200 hour teacher training in 2008, she began to see undeniable parallel in Yoga and Kung Fu. When she began teaching Kung Fu in 2014, she incorporated Yoga insight and principles in her classes. Her goal in teaching is to connect with the students and to facilitate a safe space for exploration and self inquiry. Yoga and Kung Fu is integrated into her daily life as a mother, a preschool teacher, and an advocate for gender, race and class equality through multiple non-profits groups.

Swami Ramananda is the Executive Director of the Integral Yoga Institute in San Francisco and a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition, who has been practicing Yoga for over 45 years. Ramananda offers practical methods of integrating the timeless teachings and practices of Yoga into daily life, and transforming the painful aspects of human experience into steps toward realizing one’s full potential. He leads beginner, intermediate and advanced level Yoga teacher training programs in San Francisco, and offers a variety of programs in many locations in the U.S., Europe and South America. Ramananda co-developed the Stress Management Teacher Training program with Swami Vidyananda, has trained many teachers to bring Yoga into corporate, hospital and medical settings, and has taught mind/body wellness programs in many locations. He is a certified Yoga therapist and founding board member of the Yoga Alliance, a national registry that supports and promotes yoga teachers as professionals. He is a co-founder of The Spiritual Action Initiative (SAI) which brings together individuals committed to working for social justice for all beings and for the care and healing of our natural world. His warmth, wisdom and sense of humor have endeared him to many.
