SUMMARY:Spiritual Study: Do Not Mistake the Finger for the Moon - Part 1 of 3
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE and IN-PERSON with Mia Velez\, E-RYT 500 \n$5-20 sliding scale \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance: a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nAll 3 sessions – offered individually \n\nMonday\, October 19 ⋅ 6:30 – 7:45pm\nMonday\, October 26 ⋅ 6:30 – 7:45pm Book now\nMonday\, November 2 ⋅ 6:30 – 8:00pm Book now\n\nA Zen Buddhist saying reminds us that spiritual teachings are like the finger that points to an object; and the moon (the object) is the goal of spiritual practice. In this 3 part series\, we examine the teachings and study some of our beloved teachers with the understanding that humanity has endured colonial\, racial\, and sexual oppression for millennia. These conditions then get encoded in our sacred texts and even in the behavior of our teachers; which can obscure our connection to Spirit\, and delay our true healing.\nIn discussion\, our hope is to define what exactly is our goal in spiritual practice because sometimes\, when we dwell on the teachings or deify our teachers\, we often miss the purpose of Spirituality.\nIf you are local\, please come in person to enhance our connection (snacks will be provided).\nThe Yoga Spiritual Study series is an offering in which participants learn and discuss how the teachings of Yoga apply to our daily lives. We read passages from scriptures of Yoga and other ancient and contemporary spiritual texts\, take time to reflect upon them\, and share with each other how these words and practices support us on the spiritual path. All are welcome to join any one or all of the sessions. These sessions will not be recorded.\n\nMia Velez\, E-RYT 500\, entered the Integral Yoga Sangha in 2016 through the kitchen by helping to cook Thursday community lunches and silent retreat meals. In 2018 she was certified as an Integral Yoga teacher to learn more of the IYI approach and be part of the lineage. Mia is a disciple of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu lineage and is highly influenced by her martial arts training. After completing her first 200-hour teacher training in 2008\, she began to see undeniable parallels in Yoga and Kung Fu. When she began teaching Kung Fu in 2014\, she incorporated Yoga insight and principles in her classes. Her goal in teaching is to connect with the students and to facilitate a safe space for exploration and self-inquiry. Yoga and Kung Fu are integrated into her daily life as a mother\, a preschool teacher\, and an advocate for gender\, race\, and class equality through multiple non-profit groups.

SUMMARY:Spiritual Study: Do Not Mistake the Finger for the Moon – Part 3 of 3
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE and IN-PERSON with Mia Velez\, E-RYT 500 \n$5-20 sliding scale \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance: a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nAll 3 sessions – offered individually \n\nMonday\, October 19 ⋅ 6:30 – 7:45pm Book now\nMonday\, October 26 ⋅ 6:30 – 7:45pm Book now\nMonday\, November 2 ⋅ 6:30 – 8:00pm\n\nA Zen Buddhist saying reminds us that spiritual teachings are like the finger that points to an object; and the moon (the object) is the goal of spiritual practice.

SUMMARY:Evening Meditation: A Seven-Night Journey
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE with Caroline Giles\nDaily Monday-Sunday\, November 2-8\n8:00 – 8:45pm • In-person \n$54 | $45 Early Bird\, exp. 10/26/26 \nBook now/OnlineAdvance registration appreciated. \nSeven evenings. Different practices. One intention. Finish the day with calm.\nNew to meditation and keen to explore different techniques to quiet a busy mind at the end of the day? Already experienced and looking to strengthen your evening practice with the support of a group?\nRecent Australian research suggests that newer meditators may experience benefits more quickly\, while for experienced meditators\, the frequency of practice can have a powerful effect. The research also found that reported benefits from meditation apps may be significantly overstated.\nWe often intend to practice at the end of the day\, but somehow an excuse appears\, or we simply feel too tired.\nKnowing that others face the same challenge can make all the difference. Coming together as a committed group creates the encouragement and accountability to make time for ourselves.\nAs an evening practice\, meditation can help release the tensions of the day\, let go of unhelpful thoughts and create the conditions for more restful sleep.\nJoin us for seven evenings of exploration and practice.\nEach evening will begin with a simple physical release to let go of tension (no mat required) followed by a short therapeutic technique for releasing emotions and then a different meditation practice.\nTogether\, we’ll explore a range of approaches so you can discover what works best for you.\nWhether you’re completely new to meditation or have an established practice\, you’ll find something to inspire\, support and encourage you to continue beyond these seven evenings.\nEach session will be recorded and shared for 2 weeks with enrolled participants. Early enrollment recommended for the whole course\, 7 sessions.\n\nI’m Caroline Giles\, a recently retired internationally certified Yoga Therapist and senior Yoga Teacher. I completed all levels of Integral Yoga Teacher Training at Yogaville and have been mentored by Swami Asokananda for over a decade. I live in Australia and owned a small business and private Studio\, Experience Yoga. There I was inspired to teach practices of yoga for health\, well-being\, wholeness and mindful living. I am passionate about the scientific evidence as well as the lived experience and benefits from meditation. My students were the everyday person like you and me. They came to create strength\, vitality\, inner peace and courage in their life through yoga and meditation.

SUMMARY:Satsang: When Our Flaws Become Our Superpower
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE & IN-PERSON with Rev. Diana Dharani Diaz\n$5-$20 | Enroll for free\, use promo code FREE \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance: a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nCan our worst traits actually become our superpowers? Throughout history\, we see incredible stories of transformation—sinners turned saints\, gang members turned role models\, and thieves turned philanthropists. In this inspiring Satsang\, we will look at the powerful life story of St. Moses the Black. After escaping a life of forced slavery\, he rose to power as a ruthless criminal terrorizing the desert. Everything changed\, however\, during a gang break-in at a desert monastery that completely shifted his trajectory. But not without trials and struggle. Together\, we will discover how we can channel our own personal intensity and redirect our inner power to align with our highest\, divine potential.\nEveryone is welcome to stay for tea and light snacks afterwards.\nSatsang is a special time for us to come together as a community. In Sanskrit\, Sat means truth and Sangha means community. Satsang offers an opportunity to come together to share spiritual teachings. The philosophy of Integral Yoga is explored often through an informal discussion. Although our spiritual paths may diverge\, the act of sharing spiritual teachings with others is inspiring and creates a solid foundation for continued practice. \nPeople of all faiths are welcome.\n\nDiana “Dharani” Díaz\, MA\, RYT 500\, is a writer and Yoga teacher certified in Yoga for Stress Management\, Accessible Yoga\, Yoga for Cancer and Chronic Illness\, and Holistic Sound Resonance\, among others. Diana is passionate about sharing both yoga and writing with marginalized communities. She teaches yoga online for Sister Mentors and currently serves as vice president of Voices of Our Nation’s Arts (VONA)\, an organization that nurtures writers of color. She particularly enjoys the practice of Yoga Nidra\, which aligns with her beliefs in the healing power of words and the nature of the true Self being peace.

He was deeply affected by the authentic teachings of Swami Janakananda who in turn was directly mentored by Swami Satyananda of the Bihar school of Yoga in India\, over 50 years ago. It was truly a life changing experience and Raama has dedicated his life to practicing and teaching yoga ever since. An experienced class teacher\, workshop presenter and teacher trainer for both Integral Yoga and HealMe Yoga\, Raama is currently Vice President of the Integral Yoga Institute\, San Francisco. By sharing his personal experience of Tantra\, Raama now hopes to encourage others to truly incorporate these practices into their own daily life. His informed\, compassionate and light hearted approach will ease you through resistance to experience new insights and profound personal growth. Raama has been inspired by Renata’s inquisitive mind and dedication to her practice of Tantra and is delighted to offer this unique workshop as the first of a new collaborative partnership. RENATA Renata began practicing Hatha Yoga two decades ago\, initially drawn to it for its physical benefits\, but soon realizing how other aspects of the practice are also beneficial for mental and spiritual wellbeing. In 2014 she started to deepen her yoga journey\, studying under Vimala Ren Fields of the Healing Arts and Yoga Center in Fredericksburg and began teaching in 2015 at various locations in the area. Renata has a gentle approach to yoga and her teaching style expresses the calmer aspects of the practice\, emphasizing breath awareness and an overall sense of peace and balance. She believes that yoga is for everyone\, and through her kind and tranquil nature she seeks to inspire students to experience the true essence of yoga\, on and off the mat. Renata met Raama in 2018 on a Graduate level Teacher Training that he was leading for HealMe Yoga. Remaining in contact ever since\, Renata has gradually incorporated Tantra into her existing Yoga and Meditation practice with his guidance\, encouragement and support. Renata’s experience of developing from a “novice” in these techniques\, to having a regular daily practice under Raama’s patient mentoring\, has led them to now both being uniquely qualified and prepared to introduce Tantra to a wider audience as teaching partners. SUMMARY:Yoga for Bone Strength and Balance
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE & IN-PERSON with Saroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT 500 \n$35 | $30 Early Bird\, exp. 10/18 \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance; a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nAccording to the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation\, one in two women and one in four men over 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. Yet\, bone loss is largely silent until a break occurs. The good news? Bone is living tissue that\nresponds to load\, and many yoga poses\, properly aligned and held\, deliver exactly that. Dr. Loren Fishman’s work on yoga and bone health indicates that practicing just 12 specific poses can improve bone density and quality as well as balance and coordination\, supporting bone health at any age.\nIn this workshop\, we will cover the basics of how bone-building works\, followed by guided practice of Dr. Fishman’s 12 poses. Warm-ups\, asanas\, guided relaxation\, pranayama\, and brief meditation are woven throughout. Whether you want to strengthen your bones\, improve your alignment\, or steady your balance\, you will leave with a practice you can continue at home. All participants receive a detailed handout with the poses\, nutrition guidance\, and resources for further study and practice.\nAttend in person at Integral Yoga Institute\, San Francisco\, or join online. All levels welcome\, whether you are managing bone loss or getting ahead of it. Modifications will be offered for standing\, chair-based\, and wall-supported variations so you can practice safely and effectively. Props are available at the Institute. If you are joining online\, please have a mat\, two blocks\, a strap\, a blanket\, and a sturdy chair or wall within reach.\nPlease note: If you have any medical conditions—including fractures\, spinal issues\, or joint replacements—consult your healthcare provider before attending. This workshop offers modifications but is not a substitute for medical guidance.\nThis workshop will be recorded and available to all enrolled students for two weeks.\n\nSaroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT 500\, has studied and practiced yoga for several decades. Her early yoga studies were in India followed by extensive teacher training in the Integral Yoga tradition since 1994 (Basic\, Intermediate\, Stress Management\, Accessible Yoga Teacher Training\, Laughing Yoga\, Raja Yoga\, Meditation). She also received training in other areas such as Therapeutic yoga\, Laughter Yoga in the Madan Kataria style\, Ayurveda\, Reiki\, iRest® Level 1 and a 20- hour teacher training course on Yoga vs. Osteoporosis offered by Dr. Loren Fishman in February 2024. She has taught yoga and stress management courses in a variety of settings and for varied audiences (colleges\, gyms\, offices\, ashram\, yoga studios and private classes) in the US\, Singapore & India.
