At its most superficial level\, NVC provides a framework for speaking with truthfulness (satya) and nonviolence (ahimsa). However\, NVC is rooted in the understanding that the most direct path to peace is through self-awareness and awareness of our interdependence. And when our NVC practice becomes well-established\, we release attachment to outcomes and the knowing of our shared humanity awakens.\nIn this workshop\, we explore what it means to give in a way that is selfless and joyful—giving that springs not from attachment\, obligation\, or aversion\, but from the expansive movement of our heart toward another. Through this exploration\, we discover the paradox that lies at the center of Karma Yoga: that when we give freely and fully\, the distinction between giver and receiver dissolves\, and we experience our fundamental human interconnection—the recognition that we are not separate.\nKamala Itzel Hayward was an economic justice and public policy lawyer for over a decade before shifting her focus to wellness\, mindfulness\, and healing. The liberatory\, embodied\, trauma-informed lens she developed across both paths now shapes everything she does. Itzel specializes in bringing Yoga and mindfulness to communities directly impacted by systemic oppression. She is the founder of the Integral Yoga Institute’s Scholarship-Based Yoga Teacher Training for Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color. She’s also an Adjunct Professor at UC Law SF\, where she teaches her students to facilitate equitable group processes through mindful presence\, power-consciousness\, and empathic engagement. A comprehensive\, balanced class with a steady flow\, relaxation between poses\, and guided instruction throughout. First-time students are welcome.\nTony Speciale – RYT 200 – E-RYT 200 Tony holds an MFA in Directing from Columbia University and studied musical theatre at the Boston Conservatory. A queer theatre director and devoted dog dad\, he brings curiosity\, steadiness\, and care into the teaching space. He began his yoga practice 25 years ago through Bikram Yoga and remains grateful for the discipline and clarity of the 26 & 2 sequence. Over time\, however\, he sought a non-striving practice emphasizing prāṇāyāma\, deep relaxation\, and self-inquiry. Through Integral Yoga Institute San Francisco (IYISF)\, Tony discovered a holistic approach and received his RYT 200 and E-RYT 200 certifications in 2023. His teaching emphasizes accessibility\, clear sequencing\, and mindful pacing\, inviting students to listen to the body’s inner wisdom rather than push past limits. He is especially passionate about supporting beginners\, returning students\, and those seeking a grounded\, inclusive practice. When not practicing or teaching yoga\, Tony works with the next generation of theatre artists at SUNY New Paltz\, where he integrates yoga and mindfulness into his pedagogy. He is currently in intermediate teacher training with IYISF\, working toward his RYT 300 / E-RYT 300 certification and sharing yoga as a practical tool for cultivating awareness\, ease\, and connection—on and off the mat. \n\nView Weekend Schedule –PDF \nEnjoy a Weekend Pass; make one payment and access ALL sessions throughout the weekend! The path of Jnana Yoga utilizes our clear\, awakened intelligence to dis-cover the Owner—the True Self.\nIn this workshop\, we will explore:\n· Transcending our self-limiting beliefs through Jnana Yoga.\n· Making the present moment as an ally on the spiritual path.\n· Practical methods for establishing a Jnana Yoga practice.\nJoin Swami Asokananda for this soul-nourishing experience.\nSwami Asokananda\, a monk since 1973\, is one of Integral Yoga’s foremost teachers\, known for his warmth\, intelligence\, and good humor. His teaching comes out of his own practice and experience\, since he has absorbed the wisdom of his guru\, Sri Swami Satchidananda\, since the age of 19. While he enjoys sharing the practical wisdom of the Yogic philosophy (especially that of the great Indian scripture the Bhagavad Gita)\, he also loves his practice of Hatha Yoga and is one of our primary instructors for Intermediate and Advanced Hatha Yoga Teacher Training. In the past\, he has served as the president of Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville® and Integral Yoga® International; he is currently the President of the New York Integral Yoga Institute. \n\nView Weekend Schedule –PDF \nEnjoy a Weekend Pass; make one payment and access ALL sessions throughout the weekend! The Yoga Sutras offer a practical roadmap for cultivating mental clarity\, emotional balance\, and spiritual insight through the practice of Yoga as a way of life.\nAs we engage with these teachings\, we begin to free the mind from ingrained habits\, conditioned patterns\, and unconscious tendencies that can limit our growth. Like a seed that must first take root in the earth before it can blossom\, the journey inward allows us to awaken to a deeper understanding of ourselves. The practice of nirodha—the calming of the mind’s fluctuations—reconnects us with the peace\, wisdom\, and wholeness at the heart of our being and lays out a path toward inner freedom.\nRev. Kalyani Carlee Cohen Barr first found herself at the Integral Yoga Institute (IYI) in 2001 and began teaching Hatha Yoga\, Pranayama and meditation in 2005 after receiving her certification with Swami Ramananda at IYI Bacalar\, Mexico. Kalyani has led classes and small group sessions for musicians of all ages at Interplay Jazz Camp in Vermont\, has co-lead a retreat in Northern India\, has led “Yoga Day” classes for 150 students\, and has appeared on Canadian public television. She co-founded Simply Yoga in South Florida in 2006. Kalyani now holds the position of Teacher Coordinator and assistant teacher trainer at IYISF. The name Kalyani is a spiritual name given to Carlee by Swami Ramananda which signifies a state of auspiciousness\, recognizing blessings\, and Being in bliss\, which she brings into her classes\, along with weaving Raja Yoga into the practices and into life. “Yoga is a sacred path to inner peace\, radiant health\, and deep joy. It has touched and transformed me on every level and my greatest honor is sharing this gift with others.” Join Kalyani to reconnect with your breath\, find your balance\, and experience greate \nSwami Ramananda\, C-IAYT\, E-RYT 500\, is the Executive Director of the Integral Yoga Institute in San Francisco\, C-IAYT\, and a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition who has been practicing Yoga for over 45 years. In this 3 part series\, we examine the teachings and study some of our beloved teachers with the understanding that humanity has endured colonial\, racial\, and sexual oppression for millennia. These conditions then get encoded in our sacred texts and even in the behavior of our teachers; which can obscure our connection to Spirit\, and delay our true healing.\nIn discussion\, our hope is to define what exactly is our goal in spiritual practice because sometimes\, when we dwell on the teachings or deify our teachers\, we often miss the purpose of Spirituality.\nIf you are local\, please come in person to enhance our connection (snacks will be provided).\nThe Yoga Spiritual Study series is an offering in which participants learn and discuss how the teachings of Yoga apply to our daily lives. We read passages from scriptures of Yoga and other ancient and contemporary spiritual texts\, take time to reflect upon them\, and share with each other how these words and practices support us on the spiritual path. All are welcome to join any one or all of the sessions. These sessions will not be recorded.\n\nMia Velez\, E-RYT 500\, entered the Integral Yoga Sangha in 2016 through the kitchen by helping to cook Thursday community lunches and silent retreat meals. In 2018 she was certified as an Integral Yoga teacher to learn more of the IYI approach and be part of the lineage. Mia is a disciple of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu lineage and is highly influenced by her martial arts training. After completing her first 200-hour teacher training in 2008\, she began to see undeniable parallels in Yoga and Kung Fu. When she began teaching Kung Fu in 2014\, she incorporated Yoga insight and principles in her classes. Her goal in teaching is to connect with the students and to facilitate a safe space for exploration and self-inquiry. Yoga and Kung Fu are integrated into her daily life as a mother\, a preschool teacher\, and an advocate for gender\, race\, and class equality through multiple non-profit groups.

SUMMARY:Evening Meditation: A Seven-Night Journey
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE with Caroline Giles\nDaily Monday-Sunday\, November 2-8\n8:00 – 8:45pm • In-person \n$54 | $45 Early Bird\, exp. 10/26/26 \nBook now/OnlineAdvance registration appreciated. \nSeven evenings. Different practices. One intention. Finish the day with calm.\nNew to meditation and keen to explore different techniques to quiet a busy mind at the end of the day? Already experienced and looking to strengthen your evening practice with the support of a group?\nRecent Australian research suggests that newer meditators may experience benefits more quickly\, while for experienced meditators\, the frequency of practice can have a powerful effect. The research also found that reported benefits from meditation apps may be significantly overstated.\nWe often intend to practice at the end of the day\, but somehow an excuse appears\, or we simply feel too tired.\nKnowing that others face the same challenge can make all the difference. Coming together as a committed group creates the encouragement and accountability to make time for ourselves.\nAs an evening practice\, meditation can help release the tensions of the day\, let go of unhelpful thoughts and create the conditions for more restful sleep.\nJoin us for seven evenings of exploration and practice.\nEach evening will begin with a simple physical release to let go of tension (no mat required) followed by a short therapeutic technique for releasing emotions and then a different meditation practice.\nTogether\, we’ll explore a range of approaches so you can discover what works best for you.\nWhether you’re completely new to meditation or have an established practice\, you’ll find something to inspire\, support and encourage you to continue beyond these seven evenings.\nEach session will be recorded and shared for 2 weeks with enrolled participants. Early enrollment recommended for the whole course\, 7 sessions.\n\nI’m Caroline Giles\, a recently retired internationally certified Yoga Therapist and senior Yoga Teacher. I completed all levels of Integral Yoga Teacher Training at Yogaville and have been mentored by Swami Asokananda for over a decade. I live in Australia and owned a small business and private Studio\, Experience Yoga. There I was inspired to teach practices of yoga for health\, well-being\, wholeness and mindful living. I am passionate about the scientific evidence as well as the lived experience and benefits from meditation. My students were the everyday person like you and me. They came to create strength\, vitality\, inner peace and courage in their life through yoga and meditation.

SUMMARY:Satsang: When Our Flaws Become Our Superpower
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE & IN-PERSON with Rev. Diana Dharani Diaz\n$5-$20 | Enroll for free\, use promo code FREE \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance: a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nCan our worst traits actually become our superpowers? Throughout history\, we see incredible stories of transformation—sinners turned saints\, gang members turned role models\, and thieves turned philanthropists. In this inspiring Satsang\, we will look at the powerful life story of St. Moses the Black. After escaping a life of forced slavery\, he rose to power as a ruthless criminal terrorizing the desert. Everything changed\, however\, during a gang break-in at a desert monastery that completely shifted his trajectory. But not without trials and struggle. Together\, we will discover how we can channel our own personal intensity and redirect our inner power to align with our highest\, divine potential.\nEveryone is welcome to stay for tea and light snacks afterwards.\nSatsang is a special time for us to come together as a community. In Sanskrit\, Sat means truth and Sangha means community. Satsang offers an opportunity to come together to share spiritual teachings. The philosophy of Integral Yoga is explored often through an informal discussion. Although our spiritual paths may diverge\, the act of sharing spiritual teachings with others is inspiring and creates a solid foundation for continued practice. \nPeople of all faiths are welcome.\n\nDiana “Dharani” Díaz\, MA\, RYT 500\, is a writer and Yoga teacher certified in Yoga for Stress Management\, Accessible Yoga\, Yoga for Cancer and Chronic Illness\, and Holistic Sound Resonance\, among others. Diana is passionate about sharing both yoga and writing with marginalized communities. She teaches yoga online for Sister Mentors and currently serves as vice president of Voices of Our Nation’s Arts (VONA)\, an organization that nurtures writers of color. She particularly enjoys the practice of Yoga Nidra\, which aligns with her beliefs in the healing power of words and the nature of the true Self being peace.

It can be felt as vibration\, listened to with greater subtlety\, and experienced as a doorway into deeper awareness.\nThrough different explorations of Om\, we will discover how the sound and its vibration can shift our experience and draw us inward.\nWe will also enter a meditation practice that brings together breath\, awareness\, and the subtle experience of sound\, allowing the practice to become quieter and more internal.\nOur journey will conclude with Tantric Yoga Nidra\, creating space for deep relaxation\, integration\, and inner stillness.\nCome slow down\, listen deeply\, feel the vibration\, and experience Om.\nKeep Calm & Nada Om\nExperience Om.\nSpace is limited for these popular workshops so early booking is recommended.\nBring nothing except an open mind and a loving heart – all props are provided.\nAll are welcome. No previous experience is needed.\nThis workshop will be recorded and available to all enrolled students for two weeks.\n\nRAAMA Having practiced for many years already\, Raama began his journey into the deeper aspects of Yoga\, Tantra and Meditation on Sadhana Retreat at The Scandinavian School of Yoga and Meditation in 2009. He was deeply affected by the authentic teachings of Swami Janakananda who in turn was directly mentored by Swami Satyananda of the Bihar school of Yoga in India\, over 50 years ago. It was truly a life changing experience and Raama has dedicated his life to practicing and teaching yoga ever since. An experienced class teacher\, workshop presenter and teacher trainer for both Integral Yoga and HealMe Yoga\, Raama is currently Vice President of the Integral Yoga Institute\, San Francisco. By sharing his personal experience of Tantra\, Raama now hopes to encourage others to truly incorporate these practices into their own daily life. His informed\, compassionate and light hearted approach will ease you through resistance to experience new insights and profound personal growth. Raama has been inspired by Renata’s inquisitive mind and dedication to her practice of Tantra and is delighted to offer this unique workshop as the first of a new collaborative partnership. RENATA Renata began practicing Hatha Yoga two decades ago\, initially drawn to it for its physical benefits\, but soon realizing how other aspects of the practice are also beneficial for mental and spiritual wellbeing. In 2014 she started to deepen her yoga journey\, studying under Vimala Ren Fields of the Healing Arts and Yoga Center in Fredericksburg and began teaching in 2015 at various locations in the area. Renata has a gentle approach to yoga and her teaching style expresses the calmer aspects of the practice\, emphasizing breath awareness and an overall sense of peace and balance. She believes that yoga is for everyone\, and through her kind and tranquil nature she seeks to inspire students to experience the true essence of yoga\, on and off the mat. Renata met Raama in 2018 on a Graduate level Teacher Training that he was leading for HealMe Yoga. Remaining in contact ever since\, Renata has gradually incorporated Tantra into her existing Yoga and Meditation practice with his guidance\, encouragement and support. Renata’s experience of developing from a “novice” in these techniques\, to having a regular daily practice under Raama’s patient mentoring\, has led them to now both being uniquely qualified and prepared to introduce Tantra to a wider audience as teaching partners. SUMMARY:Yoga for Bone Strength and Balance
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE & IN-PERSON with Saroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT 500 \n$35 | $30 Early Bird\, exp. 10/18 \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance; a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nAccording to the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation\, one in two women and one in four men over 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. Yet\, bone loss is largely silent until a break occurs. The good news? Bone is living tissue that\nresponds to load\, and many yoga poses\, properly aligned and held\, deliver exactly that. Dr. Loren Fishman’s work on yoga and bone health indicates that practicing just 12 specific poses can improve bone density and quality as well as balance and coordination\, supporting bone health at any age.\nIn this workshop\, we will cover the basics of how bone-building works\, followed by guided practice of Dr. Fishman’s 12 poses. Warm-ups\, asanas\, guided relaxation\, pranayama\, and brief meditation are woven throughout. Whether you want to strengthen your bones\, improve your alignment\, or steady your balance\, you will leave with a practice you can continue at home. All participants receive a detailed handout with the poses\, nutrition guidance\, and resources for further study and practice.\nAttend in person at Integral Yoga Institute\, San Francisco\, or join online. All levels welcome\, whether you are managing bone loss or getting ahead of it. Modifications will be offered for standing\, chair-based\, and wall-supported variations so you can practice safely and effectively. Props are available at the Institute. If you are joining online\, please have a mat\, two blocks\, a strap\, a blanket\, and a sturdy chair or wall within reach.\nPlease note: If you have any medical conditions—including fractures\, spinal issues\, or joint replacements—consult your healthcare provider before attending. This workshop offers modifications but is not a substitute for medical guidance.\nThis workshop will be recorded and available to all enrolled students for two weeks.\n\nSaroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT 500\, has studied and practiced yoga for several decades. Her early yoga studies were in India followed by extensive teacher training in the Integral Yoga tradition since 1994 (Basic\, Intermediate\, Stress Management\, Accessible Yoga Teacher Training\, Laughing Yoga\, Raja Yoga\, Meditation). She also received training in other areas such as Therapeutic yoga\, Laughter Yoga in the Madan Kataria style\, Ayurveda\, Reiki\, iRest® Level 1 and a 20- hour teacher training course on Yoga vs. Osteoporosis offered by Dr. Loren Fishman in February 2024. She has taught yoga and stress management courses in a variety of settings and for varied audiences (colleges\, gyms\, offices\, ashram\, yoga studios and private classes) in the US\, Singapore & India. For the past two decades\, she has taught a popular yoga philosophy and practice course at Saint Mary’s College of California\, where is also a tenured professor in the business school.
