DESCRIPTION:ONLINE and IN-PERSON with Mia Velez\, E-RYT 500 \n$5-20 sliding scale \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance: a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nAll 3 sessions – offered individually \n\nMonday\, October 19 ⋅ 6:30 – 7:45pm\nMonday\, October 26 ⋅ 6:30 – 7:45pm Book now\nMonday\, November 2 ⋅ 6:30 – 8:00pm Book now\n\nA Zen Buddhist saying reminds us that spiritual teachings are like the finger that points to an object; and the moon (the object) is the goal of spiritual practice. In this 3 part series\, we examine the teachings and study some of our beloved teachers with the understanding that humanity has endured colonial\, racial\, and sexual oppression for millennia. These conditions then get encoded in our sacred texts and even in the behavior of our teachers; which can obscure our connection to Spirit\, and delay our true healing.\nIn discussion\, our hope is to define what exactly is our goal in spiritual practice because sometimes\, when we dwell on the teachings or deify our teachers\, we often miss the purpose of Spirituality.\nIf you are local\, please come in person to enhance our connection (snacks will be provided).\nThe Yoga Spiritual Study series is an offering in which participants learn and discuss how the teachings of Yoga apply to our daily lives. We read passages from scriptures of Yoga and other ancient and contemporary spiritual texts\, take time to reflect upon them\, and share with each other how these words and practices support us on the spiritual path. All are welcome to join any one or all of the sessions. These sessions will not be recorded.\n\nMia Velez\, E-RYT 500\, entered the Integral Yoga Sangha in 2016 through the kitchen by helping to cook Thursday community lunches and silent retreat meals. In 2018 she was certified as an Integral Yoga teacher to learn more of the IYI approach and be part of the lineage. Mia is a disciple of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu lineage and is highly influenced by her martial arts training. After completing her first 200-hour teacher training in 2008\, she began to see undeniable parallels in Yoga and Kung Fu. When she began teaching Kung Fu in 2014\, she incorporated Yoga insight and principles in her classes. Her goal in teaching is to connect with the students and to facilitate a safe space for exploration and self-inquiry. Yoga and Kung Fu are integrated into her daily life as a mother\, a preschool teacher\, and an advocate for gender\, race\, and class equality through multiple non-profit groups.

SUMMARY:Yoga for Bone Strength and Balance
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE & IN-PERSON with Saroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT 500 \n$35 | $30 Early Bird\, exp. 10/18 \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance; a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nAccording to the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation\, one in two women and one in four men over 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. Yet\, bone loss is largely silent until a break occurs. The good news? Bone is living tissue that\nresponds to load\, and many yoga poses\, properly aligned and held\, deliver exactly that. Dr. Loren Fishman’s work on yoga and bone health indicates that practicing just 12 specific poses can improve bone density and quality as well as balance and coordination\, supporting bone health at any age.\nIn this workshop\, we will cover the basics of how bone-building works\, followed by guided practice of Dr. Fishman’s 12 poses. Warm-ups\, asanas\, guided relaxation\, pranayama\, and brief meditation are woven throughout. Whether you want to strengthen your bones\, improve your alignment\, or steady your balance\, you will leave with a practice you can continue at home. All participants receive a detailed handout with the poses\, nutrition guidance\, and resources for further study and practice.\nAttend in person at Integral Yoga Institute\, San Francisco\, or join online. All levels welcome\, whether you are managing bone loss or getting ahead of it. Modifications will be offered for standing\, chair-based\, and wall-supported variations so you can practice safely and effectively. Props are available at the Institute. If you are joining online\, please have a mat\, two blocks\, a strap\, a blanket\, and a sturdy chair or wall within reach.\nPlease note: If you have any medical conditions—including fractures\, spinal issues\, or joint replacements—consult your healthcare provider before attending. This workshop offers modifications but is not a substitute for medical guidance.\nThis workshop will be recorded and available to all enrolled students for two weeks.\n\nSaroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT 500\, has studied and practiced yoga for several decades. Her early yoga studies were in India followed by extensive teacher training in the Integral Yoga tradition since 1994 (Basic\, Intermediate\, Stress Management\, Accessible Yoga Teacher Training\, Laughing Yoga\, Raja Yoga\, Meditation). She also received training in other areas such as Therapeutic yoga\, Laughter Yoga in the Madan Kataria style\, Ayurveda\, Reiki\, iRest® Level 1 and a 20- hour teacher training course on Yoga vs. Osteoporosis offered by Dr. Loren Fishman in February 2024. She has taught yoga and stress management courses in a variety of settings and for varied audiences (colleges\, gyms\, offices\, ashram\, yoga studios and private classes) in the US\, Singapore & India. For the past two decades\, she has taught a popular yoga philosophy and practice course at Saint Mary’s College of California\, where is also a tenured professor in the business school. She loves how yoga practices offer guidance for physical\, mental\, and spiritual health and can be practiced by anyone.
