SUMMARY:Yoga for Strong Bones
DESCRIPTION:Online | $16.00 \nBook now/In-PersonWe appreciate advance registration. \nDid you know that yoga can help strengthen your bones? Research by Dr. Loren Fishman shows that practicing 12 specific yoga poses can improve bone density and quality\, helping prevent fractures and support bone health at any age. Yoga also enhances balance\, posture\, and coordination\, reducing the risk of falls.\nIn this monthly workshop\, we will cover the basics of the bone-building process\, followed by guided instructions for practicing the 12 poses. Integrated within a traditional Integral Yoga structure—including warm-ups\, asanas\, guided relaxation\, pranayama\, and a brief meditation—this class supports bone health\, posture\, balance\, and coordination for people of all ages.\nAll levels are welcome. Modifications will be offered for standing\, chair-based\, and wall-supported variations so you can practice safely and effectively.\nRecommended props: Yoga mat\, chair (without arms)\, strap\, block\, wall access\, and a thick towel or blanket.\nPlease note: If you have any medical conditions—including fractures\, spinal issues\, or joint replacements (especially hips or knees)—please consult your healthcare provider before starting this. This class offers modifications\, but it is not a substitute for medical guidance.\nThis program will not be recorded.\n\nSaroja Subrahmanyan\, E-RYT500\, has studied and practiced yoga for several decades. Her early yoga studies were in India followed by extensive teacher training in the Integral Yoga tradition since 1994 (Basic\, Intermediate\, Stress Management\, Accessible Yoga Teacher Training\, Laughing Yoga and Raja Yoga). She also received training in other areas such as Therapeutic yoga\, Laughter Yoga in the Madan Kataria style\, Ayurveda\, Reiki\, iRest® Level-1 and recently a 20-hour teacher training course on Yoga vs. Osteoporosis offered by Dr. Loren Fishman.\nShe has taught yoga and stress management courses in a variety of settings and for varied audiences (colleges\, gyms\, offices\, ashram\, yoga studios and private classes) in the US\, Singapore & India. For the past two decades\, she has taught a popular yoga philosophy and practice course at Saint Mary’s College of California\, where is also a tenured professor in the business school. We’ll explore how this profound wisdom tradition\, one of the oldest in the world\, is intricately woven into Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Using Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati’s book\, Samkhya Darshan (Yogic Perspective)\, as our compass\, we’ll unpack the core concepts of Purusha (pure consciousness) and Prakriti (primordial matter). Discover how understanding the dynamic interplay of these two—and the three gunas (qualities of nature)—isn’t just an intellectual exercise; it’s a key to seeing the world and your own yoga practice with fresh eyes. This isn’t about just learning history. Together we’ll connect these ancient insights directly to your personal sadhana (spiritual practice)\, helping you see your asana and meditation practice in a new light. Gaining a deeper understanding of the mind’s patterns ultimately leading to greater balance\, clarity\, and inner freedom.\nThe Yoga Spiritual Study series is an offering in which participants learn and discuss how the teachings of Yoga apply to our daily lives. We read passages from scriptures of Yoga and other ancient and contemporary spiritual texts\, take time to reflect upon them\, and share with each other how these words and practices support us on the spiritual path. All are welcome to join any one or all of the sessions. SUMMARY:Spiritual Study: From Theory to Practice: Samkhya Philosophy & the Yoga Sutras 3 of 3 Parts
DESCRIPTION:3 Mondays: March 16\, 23\, 30 | Offered individually \nOnline | $5-20 sliding scale \nBook now/OnlinePlease register in advance; a Zoom link will be emailed 1 hour before the session\, or join Zoom directly via your Momence dashboard. \nSamkhya is a foundational philosophy that’s been shaping India’s spiritual landscape for millennia. To ensure a private space for all attendees\, this will not be recorded.\nSign up for one or more individually: \nBook Monday\, March 16\nBook Monday\, March 23\nBook Monday\, March 30 \n\nKealoha Deluz has been a holistic health practitioner for 30 years\, holds a Master of Divinity\, Ph.D. in Holistic Studies\, and is currently working towards a degree in transpersonal counseling.
