The United Nations proclaimed June 21st as International Day* of Yoga in order to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.\nSnehan will share mantras and play the harmonium which are part of his regular practice.\nBut what exactly is a mantra? Mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration. The word mantra can be broken down into two parts: “man\,” which means mind\, and “tra\,” which means transport or vehicle. Mantras\, when spoken or chanted\, direct the healing power of Prana (life force energy) and\, in traditional Vedic practices\, can be used to energize and access spiritual states of consciousness. Mantras as a spiritual practice generate a powerful effect when done on a regular basis for several months.\n*International days are occasions to educate the general public on issues of concern\, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems\, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. \n\nCelebrate International Day of Yoga with us!\nALL Day  • June 21st • Open House\nALL classes\, workshops & events are by donation!\nYour support enables us to serve and share the teachings of Yoga with diverse communities. DESCRIPTION:In-person | By donation $0\, $5\, $10\, $15 \nEnroll/In-person Please review our In-person Safety Guidelines. \nThe Dances of Universal Peace and Walking Concentrations are spiritual practice in motion.\nDrawing on the sacred phrases\, scripture\, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth\, the Dances blend chant\, music and evocative movement into a living experience of unity\, peace and integration. This taste of our true nature – as Universal Peace – opens to the possibility of a deep spiritual revolution within the person.\nThe Elemental Walks support the practice of the Planetary Walks or Astrological Yoga. “Through the Walks\, the individual practitioner is able to progress through all stages of development by use of breath\, heart attunement and concentration.”\nZubin will share how these 3 practices: The Dance\, the Element Walks and an introduction to Astrological Yoga\, as given by Murshid Sam Lewis to Murshid Wali Ali Meyer\, her Sufi initiator and Master teacher who was the Master teacher of these walks and dances for the last 50 years. It was his baraka ( بركة a “blessing”) that brought so many to put their feet where he put his.\n“It is by following Wali Ali around\, holding his hand in the dances and following in the wake of his energy during Walking Meditations that I “caught” the practices.” ~ Zubin\nA simple vegetarian meal will be offered after this in-person Satsang with a suggested donation of $5-10.\nSatsang is a special time for us to come together as a community. In Sanskrit\, Sat means truth and Sangha means community. Satsang offers an opportunity to come together to share spiritual teachings. We will explore how to take refuge in the unchanging source of wisdom within us and how each of us can learn to access that presence in a unique way.\nSatsang\, a special time for us to come together as a community. In Sanskrit\, Sat means truth and Sangha means community. Satsang offers an opportunity to come together to share spiritual teachings. DESCRIPTION:Online | By donation $0\, $5\, $10\, $15 \nEnroll/Online Please register in advance\, a Zoom link and passcode will be provided via confirmation email. \nBecause of the high value that the dominant culture places on individualism\, it’s common for trauma to be investigated and addressed through an individualistic lens. However\, trauma experienced by a group of people is a collective experience—and transforming these wounds together reminds us that we’re not alone on our journeys.\nIn this workshop we’ll explore the role that Yoga can play in the transformation and healing of collective trauma—in particular\, collective trauma experienced as a result of living under structural and systemic oppression.\nSatsang\, a special time for us to come together as a community. She is passionate about bringing Yoga and other healing modalities to adults facing chronic stress caused by living under oppression\, such as racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, transphobia\, classism\, ableism\, and more.\nShe is founder of the Integral Yoga Institute’s Scholarship-Based Yoga Teacher Training for Black\, Indigenous\, People of Color. For the last 12 years\, she has been sharing Yoga with individuals facing housing insecurity and related challenges\, including systemic barriers; structural oppression; social dislocation; physical\, emotional\, and mental health challenges; substance abuse; and addiction. SUMMARY:Maha Shivaratri
DESCRIPTION:Online & In-Person | By donation $0\, $5\, $10\, $15\nEnroll/Online Please register in advance\, a Zoom link and passcode will be provided via confirmation email. \nEnroll/In-person Please review our In-person Safety Guidelines. \nPlease join us for the celebration of Maha Shivaratri\, a major festival in Hinduism. This sacred festival marks the remembrance of “overcoming darkness and ignorance” in life and the world. It is observed by remembering Shiva and chanting prayers\, fasting\, bathing\, and meditating on ethics and virtues such as honesty\, non-injury to others\, charity\, forgiveness\, and the discovery of Shiva. Swami Ramananda\, Babaji and Snehan will contemplate Shiva\, his attributes and forms as well as the austerities in yoga practice as they relate to the modern time yogis. The program will be concluded with puja and extended chanting.\nYou are welcome to join the traditional fasting on this day. After finishing morning practices and bathing\, take a vow (Sankalp संकल्प) to observe full day fast\, pledging for self-determination throughout the fasting period and seeking blessings of Lord Shiva to finish the fast without any interference. Traditionally\, before doing Shiva Puja or visiting temple in the evening\, the devotees take a second bath on this day to cleanse themselves. Shiva Puja is done during night and the ardent devotees observe this celebration by staying awake all night. The fast is broken the next day after taking a bath.\n Swami Ramananda\, C-IAYT\, RYT-500\, is the Executive Director of the Integral Yoga Institute in San Francisco and a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition\, who has been practicing Yoga for over 45 years. SUMMARY:Satsang: The Limitless Benefits of a Regular Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:Online & In-Person | By donation $0\, $5\, $10\, $15\nEnroll/Online Please register in advance\, a Zoom link and passcode will be provided via confirmation email. \nEnroll/In-person Please review our In-person Safety Guidelines. \nJoin Raama and Snehan for their first Satsang together. After gathering for a brief kirtan\, we will explore the results of a regular spiritual practice. There are many such Sadhana (spiritual practices) to discuss/consider and we will delve into the unlimited benefits that inevitably come for long term practitioners. There can also be so many challenges\, or obstacles. We can all share tips and techniques\, then practice together to overcome these Kleshas (obstacles) and benefit from the collective wisdom of the group. So let us find support for each other by coming together as satsangha\, a tribe of spiritual seekers.\nA simple vegetarian meal will be offered after this in-person Satsang with a suggested donation of $5-10. Pre-registration required.\nSatsang is a special time for us to come together as a community. In Sanskrit\, Sat means truth and Sangha means community. Satsang offers an opportunity to come together to share spiritual teachings. The philosophy of Integral Yoga is explored often through an informal discussion. Although our spiritual paths may diverge\, the act of sharing spiritual teachings with others is inspiring and creates a solid foundation for continued practice.\nPeople of all faiths are welcome.\nRaama Das\, C-IAYT\, is a former director of the Integral Yoga® Teachers Association and has been instructing Integral Yoga since 2009.
