You are the Awareness

With awareness comes dis identification from thoughts, emotions, and reactions. This is not to be confused with denial. The thoughts, emotions, or reactions are recognized, and in the moment of recognizing, dis identification happens automatically. Your sense of self, of who you are, then undergoes a shift: Before you were the thoughts, emotions, and reactions; now you are the awareness, the conscious Presence that witnesses those states.

Own Your Power

It is  so easy to get caught up in the wiring of our pre-programmed reactivity that we live our lives cruising along on the automatic pilot.   By paying attention to the choices my automatic circuitry is making, I own my power and make more choices consciously. In the long run, I take responsibility for what I attract into my life.

I have learned a lot from witnessing the condition of my mind and my energy level each morning as I go to meditation.  In particular, it’s often easy to see the effects of what I ate and how much I worried the day before.

When I eat too much or too many sugary foods, I feel lethargic and my mind is scattered the next morning.  When I experience a lot of anxiety or get stressed out in my work, my sleep is less restful and my mind is agitated.

This experience makes it easy for me to be more mindful of what I consume and what thoughts and feelings I allow my mind to dwell on.  When I am able to eat in ways that genuinely nourish my system and keep my mind full of gratitude and positive thinking, I find myself full of energy and naturally cheerful.

Right Mind

“It is liberating to know that I have the ability to choose a peaceful and loving mind (my right mind), whatever my physical or mental circumstances, by deciding to step to the right  and bring my thoughts back to the present moment.”

-Jill Bolte Taylor Ph.D. from My Stroke of Insight
